Capacity Building

Capacity building is an ongoing process through which individuals, groups, organizations and societies enhance their ability to identify and meetorganisational development challenges.
Capacity building is much more than training and includes:
• Human resource development, the process of equipping individuals with the understanding, skills and access to information, knowledge and training that enables them to perform effectively.
• Organizational development, the elaboration of management structures, systems, processes and procedures.
• Creation of an enabling environment with appropriate policy and legal framework;

The need for capacity building is always changing. There are no readymade solutions, and any programme must be tailor-made and appropriate for the client requirement.

Action Learning

Action learning is an educational process whereby people work and learn together by tackling real issues and reflecting on their actions. Learners acquire knowledge through actual actions and practice rather than through traditional instruction.

Action learning is done in conjunction with others, in small groups called action learning sets. It is proposed as particularly suitable for adults and children, as it enables each person to reflect on and review the action they have taken and the learning points arising. This should then guide future actions and improve performance.

Today, action learning is practiced by a wide community of businesses, governments, non-profits, and educational institutions.

An action learning approach has been recognized as a valuable means of supporting the Continuing Professional Development of professionals in emerging professions.

In recent years the pace of development has forced most organizations in Sri Lanka to rapidly promote and hurriedly recruit employees who may not be fully prepared to accept the responsibilities that they are presented with. Our trainees will learn and enhance those ‘life skills’ we all need to cope in a fast moving and highly competitive work environment; skills such as leadership, initiative, communication, decision-making, cooperation, risk-taking and trust.

The difference between wisdom and education is what separate the visionary from the ordinary. One can have the privilege of an impeccable education but true wisdom can only be acquired through understanding and reflecting upon one’s experiences.
